Momo

Momo is a very loving Ragdoll that I bought when I lived in Korea. She spent her first 2 years in Korea with me before we moved back to the states. Consequently, all my commands and talking to her are in Korean, but she also knows English so she is bilingual!

Momo is very inquisitive and loves all animals and humans. She always wants to be near them but doesn’t often enjoy being pet unless it's by me or someone she knows really well. She follows me around the house and we often have conversations. She is so talkative :) Her favorite games are chasing balls and playing peekaboo. Other than being adorable I love that she sleeps right next to me every night. Momo and I have been through a lot of changes, but no matter what struggle I am going through I know Momo will be there for me when I get home.

The tea

Gunpowder green, and a great deal of mint.

Chinese gunpowder green rolled into pellets, blended with both spearmint and peppermint. The green tea brings an earthy, faintly vegetal base, and the mint is not subtle. This is a strong mint cup, the way it is served across North Africa.

It is excellent over ice, and one of the few teas here that is arguably better cold than hot.

Getting it right

How we'd steep Momo's.

If it tastes good, it is good. These are guidelines, not gospel — start here and move whichever way your cup wants to go.

One sachet per 12 oz mug. No measuring, same numbers otherwise.

  • We'd start here

    Hot, in a mug

    Let the kettle stand a couple of minutes off the boil, then steep three minutes. Gunpowder is rolled tight, so give it a moment to open up.

  • Over ice

    Double the leaf, four minutes, straight over a full glass of ice. This is how we would drink it in summer, and it needs nothing added.

  • A second steep

    The green base has another cup in it, though the mint fades faster than the tea does. Expect something earthier and less minty the second time round.

If it's not right

Too weak
Add leaf before you add time. Past five minutes black tea gets bitter, not stronger.
Too bitter
Pull it a minute earlier, or use slightly less leaf. Water temperature isn't the culprit with black tea — it wants the full boil.
